What your child is learning in play school?

The first years of your child’s life are filled with incredible growth and development. Not only does your child learn to walk and talk, they also experience massive brain growth that – if they are stimulated correctly – sets the stage for future academic growth. Play school plays an important role in providing this essential stimulation, but what will your child actually learn during their time here?

  • Letters: Learning the alphabet, how to identify and draw different letters as well as write simple words is the first step in developing literacy. This exciting time teaches children crucial language, motor and communication skills through singing songs, learning how to hold writing tools properly and fun craft projects.
  • Colours, objects and shapes: During these activities, children learn about identifying different parts of their bodies, objects, and colours. With fun games, colouring activities and more, your child will start to learn about the different relationships between objects, different shapes and the colours of the world around them.
  • Cutting and drawing: Learning how to use scissors safely in a fully-supervised environment is important and fun craft projects will help your child develop their motor skills and creativity. This will also expose your child to new mediums, like pencils, crayons, paints, chalk and glue.
  • Numbers: Learning about different numbers and how to count is a great way to introduce your child to the basics of maths. This exercises their memories as well as teaching them about this important new language. From counting how many crayons they have to adding up their fingers and toes, children start to learn the relationships between numbers in a fun and interesting way.
  • Socialisation: Play school is the perfect environment for building social skills. Here, children learn how to interact with peers, how to interact with adults who are not their parents, how to share and how to follow rules. Through play and structured group activities, you’ll see your child grow and develop all kinds of new social skills.
